According to a Reuters report on the 13th, on the 12th local time, a group of protesters in the capital of Guatemala roped the Columbus monument and tried to pull it down, but failed. This monument was shipped from Spain to Guatemala in 1896. The monument is 9 meters tall and weighs 10 tons. Another group of protesters tore off the head of another historical monument and splashed it with red paint. This monument commemorates the former President Jose Maria Reina Barrios during the historical period, who served from 1892 to 1898.

An advocate of the Farmers' Rights Movement said, “They are the aggressors, and (these monuments) are the continuation of the aggression.” The capital of Guatemala issued a statement on the same day, condemning the “deliberate destruction of historical sites”.
